Conductor

Eleanor Kenitzer

"I was born into a musical family so it is no wonder that I sang before I talked.  Each family member had a different musical taste – from hymns, jazz, classical to Jimi Hendrix!  But when I think back on it, what I remember is the sheer joy of making music together!  I got the directing “bug” at 16 when I directed a church choir and was hired for my first church choir at 21."

"Forty-some years later, the love of it hasn’t diminished.  The love of Cornish music and the male voice choir sound happened on the first trip to Cornwall with the Cornish Carol Choir and it still gives me goose bumps.  There’s not much better than directing the energy, power, the depth of sound of a group of men - and they look pretty great, too!"

Assistant Conductor

Darrel Crawford

Darrell Crawford, our Assistant Director, joined the Male Voice Choir in 2004, when he retired from teaching in Calaveras County and moved to Grass Valley. In earlier years he had been a music teacher and Music Supervisor in Modesto, raised 5 kids, and finished his doctorate in the early ‘70’s. He also directed a church choir, as well as many community choral events.

Life changed when he moved to the mountains (Arnold, CA). After some teaching, he drafted house plans, owned/operated a motel, tried being a real estate broker, and finally got back into music teaching, his first love.

So when he moved to Grass Valley, it was natural to get involved in choral music. He now sings in three choirs and assists the director in two of them. If you visit one of our rehearsals, you’ll see Darrell warming up the guys' voices and “pinning down those parts”!!

Pianist

Karen Driscoll

Karen Driscoll, our accompanist, was born in Grass Valley and raised in the Bay Area. "I returned to Nevada County in 1989 with my husband Gary so we could raise our two young girls in this beautiful environment. I have studied and played the piano since I was a young child. In addition, I played the oboe as a youth, then focused my college studies on classical organ."

"I joined the Grass Valley Male Voice Choir in 2000, and have found it to be one of the happiest and most rewarding experiences in my life."
